Reading Deal Reports

The deal report might read something like this:

Edgar Allan Poe’s THE TELL TALE HEART, follows a psychotic narrator who, after killing, dismembering, and burying an old man beneath the floorboards in his house, is tormented by what he believes is the incessant beating of his victim’s heart, in a significant deal to Virginia Clemm at Tamerlane Publications, by Annabelle Lee at The Pendulum Agency.

From this report, we learn who the author is, the book that was sold, and we get a short description of the work. We also know the editor and publishing house, and which agent and agency made the deal. The deal sometimes mentions when the book is scheduled for publication. But what’s does ‘significant’ mean?

Nice Deal: $1 to $49,000
Very Nice Deal: $50,000 to $99,000
Good Deal: $100,000 to $250,000
Significant Deal: $251,000 to $499,000
Major Deal: $500,000 and up
