A sincere thanks to everyone who joined in the festivities of the 2011 Coffin Hop. It was a lot of fun! I selected the 5 winners this morning using a random number selector. Entries were selected from comments dating from 10/24 to 10/31 on the posts: Wicked Brownies, Don’t Fear the Reaper: The First Chapter, Coffin Hop 2011 & Halloween Giveaway, and Is Your Life Whispering To You.

Here’s the results:

2nd winner: #2 Red Tash

3rd winner: #12 Moon

4th winner: #11 Paul D. Dail

This & That: Spike, Pub News, Stephen King’s Mile 81, & A Book Freebie!

In case you missed it, Spike Spills the Beans about me over at author Kait Nolan’s site. So, if you ever wanted to know if I wear bunny slippers or if the Beezlepup is fierce or friendly, hop on over. I’ve been off the promotional bandwagon for a bit, but I’ll be on more blogs soon. In fact, I’m open for interviews (just not guest posts at the moment), book reviews, and giveaways. If you’re a book reviewer/book blogger, drop me a line.

The Book of Lost Souls is on a bunch of listopia lists on Goodreads. Yeah, yeah. I know. Some would argue they’re just lists. But, they make me happy. Deep inside, I bet those lists brighten a LOT of authors’ days. After all, someone has taken the time to create the lists and add books to them. Their time is valuable and I appreciate that. If you’ve added The Book of Lost Souls and are reading this, thank you so much.

ON THE BLOGOSPHERE
Karen McQuestion talks about keywords on Amazon and how authors can utilize them… of course, better hurry! Keywords for some books (like mine) are disappearing as Amazon revamps how readers are able to search for books.

J.A. Konrath talks about how to succeed in self-publishing

Chuck Wendig over at Terrible Minds posts 25 Things You Should Know About Self-Publishing

NEW RELEASES
Stephen King’s Mile 81 is now available for $2.99 on Amazon, B&N, iBooks. Looks like a spin on Christine.

FREEBIES!
Author Suzanne Tyrpak has her collection of short stories, Ghost Plane and Other Disturbing Tales for free on iBook. She’s hoping to make it free for a promotion on Amazon, but you’ll need to verify that. No word on how long it’ll be free wherever your find it, so check it out asap.

Devlin’s Delicacies

Many of you know by now that I’m getting ready to release a new book. While it isn’t the second in the Ivy MacTavish series (I’m working on it), it is another young adult series. Once it comes back from my fabulous editor and proofreader, I’ll be spending some time promoting it while I write the sequel to The Book of Lost Souls. No, my editor is not Ronan, although he does seem to be enjoying the manuscript, doesn’t he?

It seems strange that Ivy and all her friends will have to take second in the promotion department. So, I thought it would be nice to give them the spotlight treatment on the blog before y’all start seeing posts about the new book. So, over the next couple of weeks, you’ll see some character-centric posts.

Today’s post is Devlin’s Delicacies. Ronan, pictured in the photo above, is the real-life inspiration for Ivy’s pet dog, a Beezlepup named Devlin. Ronan is quite a bit like Devlin. Although he doesn’t breath fire, he did get the hiccups as a pup, he does pee on all sorts of things including my rose bushes, and he has an insane fetish for anything that squeaks. We won’t go there about what he’s really hacked up on the living room carpet.

Unlike his fictional counterpart, Ronan doesn’t care for sweets. Except JellyBelly jellybeans. See, Ronan is weird. He doesn’t care for food. Well, unless it’s meat. Plain meat. He’s the most fickle dog I’ve ever known and it drives me to drink. This past weekend I decided to try baking some treats with a dehydrated dog food. It was a real experiment, but in the end, it worked. Ronan actually likes them. Tasha scarfs them up in typical Tasha fashion. In case you’d like to bake your own Devlin’s Delicacies, here’s the recipe.

DEVLIN’S DELICACIES

1 cup Honest Kitchen dehydrated dog food
1 cup warm filtered water
1 egg
1/4 cup unseasoned ground, cooked chicken (I ran cooked chicken breasts through the food processor)
1/4 cup cheddar cheese
1 tsp honey
3 tbls yogurt (for those probiotics to keep your own Beezlepup’s tummy happy)
1 tbl parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 350.
In large mixing bowl, combine dehydrated dog food and water. Add in remainder of ingredients and beat with mixer. Spoon onto baking sheets in half-tsp drops. Flatten drops. Bake for 22 minutes. Let cool on pan. Store in refrigerator for up to six days. Unused or extra portions can be kept in freezer, separating each layer with wax paper, for up to two weeks.

You can add other goodies like blueberries, pumpkin, or cranberries. Never add chocolate or raisins as these are dangerous for your dog.

DailyCheapReads Jr. feature of the day? The Book of Lost Souls!

Yes, I’m doing the happy dance here. For those who don’t know, DailyCheapReads.com is a great site to find great ebooks on the cheap. Their spinoff site is DailyCheapReads Jr., for young adult and childrens’ books. Both sites are very discerning – the book must have at least five 5-star reviews. The Book of Lost Souls currently has fourteen. Yep! I said fourteen! It also has 79 likes, too. But who’s counting besides me? *grins*

If you’ve read The Book of Lost Souls and enjoyed it, I’d greatly appreciate it if you stopped by to comment.
